"Limited laundry machines in your New York City apartment building? Use this app to avoid wasting time when machines aren't available. Unlike the timer on your phone, this app holds your fellow laundry-doers accountable."

Overview:

I designed an MVP iOS mobile app for a client interested in eliminating the time they waste doing laundry. My design allows for users to time their laundry loads in accordance with the machine & stop/start the timer based on their schedule. I provided user research, sketches, usability testing insights, wireframes & screen flow.

Proof of Concept & Research:

My initial research consisted of observational research & contextual inquiries. To prove there was a need, I watched as people utilized the washing machines in three different buildings, all of which have only 1 or 2 of each machine (washer & dryer) and 20+ tenants. After observing behaviors, including taking their peer's clean clothes and putting them on the dirty floor, I started asking questions. From these contextual inquiries, I discovered the lack of knowing machine availability was the main issue.
